Our Story

How they met:
Aaron and Rob met in Washington, DC when he heroically saved her from getting hit by a metro train... just kidding, they met on OkCupid. She eyed up his profile online and graciously allowed him to see that she viewed him. They had both answered lots of questions about themselves and reviewed what each other had to say. Rob messaged Aaron to meet up for a date. He tasked her with picking a location from a list of "DC's 20 least douchey bars". She narrowed it down to a few and Rob chose Compass Rose as the place to meet. Aaron showed up late as Rob was anxiously waiting (this was a recurring theme during the proposal at the very same location). They hit it off and the rest is history - not surprising for a 99% match.

The Proposal:
Rob got the ring and wanted to come up with a plan to surprise Aaron - not an easy task. They had a trip planned to Naples to stay at the Szot's new house in sunny south Florida. The original plan to was to propose on the Naples pier at sunset, but Rob was too anxious to wait that long. Aaron had a happy hour planned with her friend Sasha downtown after work on the Thursday before their weekend getaway. Rob quickly intervened and contacted Sasha to scheme up a surprise proposal. Rob had Sasha ask Aaron if they could check out Compass Rose around 7pm, as she's never been and lives nearby. An unsuspecting Aaron agreed, but was delayed due to tending to a client at her law firm. After work, Rob spoke to the hostess to reserve a table (nervously as they don't take reservations), but she was so excited to host their first proposal and made the accommodation. Aaron's client delayed and delayed; meanwhile, Rob was sweating bullets in the car around the corner waiting for nearly 4 hours. It was getting late so she tried to cancel, but Sasha insisted she had something important to tell her and needed to meet up for a drink. Finally, Aaron obliged and headed to Compass Rose around 10:30pm. Rob got the cue upon her arrival and made his way in. As Sasha stepped away from the table, Rob placed a rose over Aaron's shoulder in front of her on the table. Aaron thought it was a gimmick (given the name of the restaurant), then was surprised to see Rob as she had just sat down to hear what Sasha had to say. Rob took Aaron's hands, gave his speech shaking and quivering, and got down on one knee to pop the question. Of course she said "Yes" - they're now a 100% match.
